How to Enter:
We LOVED the interest in our last writing contest. You can write a poem, story, essay… your choice! We look forward to awarding prizes and publishing YOUR submission in 2023.
To be considered, entries must be:
– Word documents sent electronically as an attachment. We cannot accept handwritten or PDF entries. If you do not have computer access, we will help you find access
– Under 1500 words regardless of whether poetry, essay, or short story
– Have a title
– Original, unpublished works in English

Entries must be submitted via email as a Word document attachment. THE DEADLINE IS Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2023!!

1st Place: $300 | 2nd Place: $150 | 3rd Place: $100
Periscope, an anthology of the winning and outstanding entries, will be published in time for the Award Event in Fall 2023. Copies will be available for $5 each following the event by sending an email for more details to Marie at the address above.
All published entrants are invited to our 2023 Periscope Creative Writing Contest Awards Event tentatively scheduled for October 2023 at which time prize money will be presented. All published attendees will get a copy of the Periscope Creative Writing Contest chapbook. In the 2022 Periscope, our judges selected 25 works of creative writing for publication. Let’s keep the momentum going!
– Please no repeat submissions from previous years.
– We can only accept one entry per person.
– There is no theme, entry fee, or purchase required to enter.
– Contestants must be adult mental health consumers or in recovery from substance use and living in Maine.
– Copyright of each entry remains the author’s property.
– If you prefer anonymity, so indicate in your submission.
*Employees of Recovery Centers are welcome to submit their work to be considered for publication but are not eligible for a cash prize.
